I MATTER ! Poetry Contest for K-12 Students

The National Youth Foundation has announced I MATTER! Poetry Contest is a competition to bring social change through literature. All students who are currently enrolled in K-12 are eligible to apply. Applications are now open for this exciting competition. The contest garners participants from across the US. Make use of this platform to voice out your opinions on the pressing issues that plague our society today. Use your writing skills to serve a better cause.  So, if you are a budding poet in the making, then, this opportunity is for you!

The Poetry Contest is an initiative of the “National Youth Foundation” to spread awareness about the most concerning social issues through the medium of poetry. Poetry stimulates our minds and allows us to think about ourselves. This clubbed with social change is the essence of this contest. This can be seen from this year’s topic, which asks the contestants to speak about ‘Black Lives Matter. Which is a decentralized political and social movement that opposes all forms of racially-based violence against black citizens, including police brutality.

The National Youth Foundation’s mission is to foster diversity, inclusion, and gender equity through ground-breaking literary initiatives. It was founded by Black women with a passion for progress. The main duties that the foundation has taken upon include, the Amazing Women’s Edition competition to encourage students to share stories about local heroines and the Student Book Scholars squad writing contest in collaboration with professional players from the NFL, NBA, and MLB.

Who May Be Eligible

Candidates interested in qualifying for the contest must meet the requirements.

  • Candidates must be in K-12.
  • It is necessary that the candidate is a resident of the US.

How to Apply

To be considered for the contest, candidates must apply online. Participants will qualify for the contest by visiting the National Youth Foundation website and registering. Candidates must submit an original piece of writing for their online application, and they must carefully fill out all of the required information. Supporting Documents

The participants are required to submit a poem. Each entry must be an original poetry creation that is solely created by the student. The poem submitted must be on the topic of ‘Black Lives Matter.
