What Design Can Do, together with the IKEA Foundation, is now presenting a fantastic program called “No Waste Challenge”. The program is currently open for submissions. It has been dedicated to inspiring talented and creative people to find out an innovative solution to reduce waste and to rethink our entire production and consumption cycle. With the help of this program, What Design Can Do wants to address the problem of waste and its enormous impact on our climate change. Anyone from around the world who is concerned about the increasing waste on earth can apply for this program and suggest the solution that they think is best for reducing this problem. This contest is kept entry fee-free so that maximum individuals can be a part of this program.
Needless to say that our planet is becoming a home of waste and as per a report, we dump a massive 2.12 billion tonnes of it worldwide. Isn’t it shocking? If we continue doing so, then those days are not so far when we might have to witness a climate crisis. The waste we dump each day is causing severe and disaster problems on earth such as climate change, accelerating global warming and biodiversity. Our garbage is ruining not only our environment but the biodiversity and even our health. This issue can be root out from our society by embracing the habit of recycling in our life. We can convert our waste material into new material and use it. Keeping the problem of increasing waste on earth in mind, What Design Can Do has initiated this challenge for students.
What Design Can Do is an international platform dedicated to advocating for design as a tool for social change. It has adopted various activities to promote designers’ role in addressing the world’s most pressing societal and environmental issues. By showcasing best practices, raising discussions and facilitating collaboration amongst disciplines contributes to raising awareness of environmental preservation.
