Supporting Documents
- 2021-22 TOPICAL ESSAY: The candidate must write a 1,200-word essay on the given topic:
- “Each year, the U.S. population grows by more than 1,700,000 people. South Carolina is no different, growing to over 5 million, with a growth rate ranked sixth-fastest in the country. Statistically, each additional person requires an additional acre of land and highways. This rapid influx of people has increased the demand for urbanization, resulting in a troubling rise in deforestation as we seek to find more land on which to build. What does this mean for farmland, biodiversity and animal habitats in the Palmetto State?”
- A Personal Essay or Autobiography: On separate paper, the applicant will write a brief autobiography to include a description of his/her career ambitions in the field of electronic, print or photojournalism, advertising, public relations or mass communications and why he/she desires a college education, plus explain their interests in wildlife, natural resources, the environment, coastal resources or related topics and why they will be a good investment if awarded this scholarship. (No more than three pages typed).
- An autobiography, transcript of high school grades, college board scores, rank in the high school class and a recent photograph
