Dancing with friends is very exciting for everyone. Because of COVID, lately, we all have been forced to stay home and maintain social distancing to avoid the infection. In some of places, people are still required to follow the guidelines issued by the government to prevent the spread of COVID. In such a situation, dancing with people we admire and like has become impossible. Keeping this situation in mind, the American Association for the Advancement of Science has started a program named “Science’s Dance Your Ph.D. Contest”. The organization is very pleased to announce the start of its 14th annual research-themed dance-off. The deadline for submitting an entry is 28 January 2022.
All the participants of this program will be challenged to describe their research obsession with fancy footwork but no PowerPoint slides or jargon. No matter you have just enrolled in a PhD program or completed it long ago, you can still take part in this program and compete. What you need to win this contest is good imagination power and the ability to keep the beat. There were four categories in last year’s contest: physics, biology, chemistry, and social science. But this year, the organization has decided to add a new one which is machine learning, a specialty of the contest’s sponsor, the artificial intelligence company Primer. The categories’ winners will take home $750 and the top dance will get the ultimate glory and an extra $2000. Candidates of this program are required to follow all their local COVID-19 rules while practicing and performing their dance entries. Entries that feature unvaccinated, unmasked people in close contact will not be eligible.
American Association for the Advancement of Science is not for profit organization that is dedicated to its mission of promoting cooperation among scientists, defending scientific freedom, encouraging scientific responsibility, and supporting scientific education and science outreach for the betterment of all humanity.
