D.C. Merit Scholarships

The United Negro College Fund is inviting applications for their “EMT New York / New Jersey /D.C. Merit Scholarship 2021” to help them achieve their higher education easily. The students eligible for the program are a graduating high school senior in New York, New Jersey or Washington, DC, participating in the Empower Me Tour. Applicants attending 4-Year Colleges, HBCUs universities are encouraged to apply.

The UNCF created the scholarship program to assist students who are passionate about their higher education. The funds declared by the organisation will be great enough to pay for any of the educational purposes. Students will be judged based on overall applications will be granted enough funds to pay for their expenses.

The United Negro College Fund, also known as the United Fund, is an American philanthropic organisation that finances black student scholarships and general scholarship funds for 37 historically black private universities and colleges. UNCF was incorporated by Frederick D. Patterson, Mary McLeod Bethune, and others on April 25, 1944. UNCF is based at 1805 7th Street, N.W. In Washington, D.C., in 2005, with approximately $113 million in grants and scholarships, UNCF funded approximately 65,000 students at over 900 colleges and universities.

Who May Be Eligible?

Candidates must meet up with the given criteria to be eligible:

  • Candidates must be a graduating high school senior in New York, New Jersey or Washington, DC, participating in the Empower Me Tour to be considered for the scholarship
  • Must have a GPA of 3.0
  • Must be attending a 4-Year Colleges, HBCUs universities

How to Apply

The United Negro College Fund is receiving applications from eligible applicants through an online process. The students interested in applying can apply by filling out an online application form by the login. Applicants must be submitting asked credentials to make their application a complete one. Late or incomplete applications by students will not be considered.

Supporting Documents

  • GPA of 3.0 or higher demonstrated on his / her most recent high school transcript
  • One letter of recommendation from a teacher or counsellor
  •  An essay of 500 words or less on “How The Scholarship Will Help You.”

 Benefits

The United Negro College Fund will be announcing the recipients of four $2,500 scholarships at the end of the day on November 21st during the “Better Futures Celebration.” The recipients will get to cover their educational expenses such as tuition, fees, books, etc.  The funds will help them accomplish their higher education without any financial burden.

Application Deadline

The application deadline for the scholarship program is November 11, 2020, at 11:59 PM EST. Students are asked to submit their applications by the deadline to get consideration.
