The California Architecture Foundation is pleasingly inviting candidates to apply for the Paul W. Welch Jr. ARE Scholarship. Candidates must be NCARB and CAB record holder in good standing or IPAL student to be eligible.
The purpose of the program is to support the candidates who are in the early stage of architectural career and are working hard towards the success and broadening the field. The scholarship was exclusively designed in the memory of Paul W Welch Jr. This program celebrates his contribution towards the field and his work with California Architects Board (CAB), and with AIA California. The program supports students who have the same capability.
The California Architecture Foundation works dedicated to bettering the field of architecture and supporting the students willing to create a robust future in the field of architecture. CAF or California Architecture Foundation facilitates public programming by initiating different activities like workshops, exhibitions, competitions, and many other programs to support the students studying architecture.

Who May Be Eligible?

- Applicant must be a California resident and AIAS or Associate AIA Member in good standing.
- Candidates must be NCARB and CAB record holder in good standing or IPAL student to be eligible.
- Applicants may have passed one or more divisions of the ARE but cannot have passed all divisions.
How to Apply
The application process is extremely straightforward. Fellows must download the application and complete it with all the required details and materials. Candidates should submit all the needed materials without any negligence. No late or incomplete submission will be entertained. Fellows maintain the originality of the data they are submitting.
Supporting Documents
- Nomination letter on their letterhead from an AXP mentor or supervisor, an AIA Member in good standing or an Executive Director at any AIA chapter in California, is mandatory.
- Essay response no more than 800 words in 12 point font and a Biography and/or resume must be submitted.
- Two additional letters of support that are explicit in their recommendation should be provided.
Benefits
The selected students will enjoy multiple benefits; some are:
- One year subscription to online study materials.
- Reimbursement of the cost of passing each division of the ARE ($1,260 – $1,470) and the CA Supplemental Exam ($100).
- Reimbursement of NCARB ($100) and CAB ($100) fees to establish records.
Application Deadline
The last date to apply for the program is November 2, 2020. Any late submission will directly be rejected.
