BREC’s Conservation Department is delighted to announce that it is organizing a fantastic Back to Nature Photo Contest for 2021. This photography contest is for youth, adults and professionals. It is divided into three categories: Bluebonnet Swamp Nature Center, Satellite Conservation Areas and Professional. The program is meant to give photographers the chance to explore the Satellite Conservation Areas they might have never seen before. So if you in love with capturing the tremendous beauty of nature into your camera and aim to become a nature photographer or you are currently working as one of them, then this contest is something that you cannot afford to miss.
This year, BREC’s Conservation Department is going to challenge all the participants to explore and capture the movement of nature in its parks. The theme for this year’s contest is Nature in Motion, and the theme will be the same for each category. So whether you are a novice or professional, you have to follow this theme to compete in this program. From leisurely bayous to busy bees to the shifting of the seasons, nature is in a constant state of motion and change and keeps its beauty. All you need to do is use your photography talent and imagination to take the perfect shots of nature’s beauty and send them to BREC’s Conservation Department to win this contest.
BREC is an agency dedicated to connecting people to parks and nature in East Baton Rouge Parish. It includes more than 180 parks consisting of a unique mix of facilities, which reflects the history and rich natural resources in south Louisiana. Apart from this, it has a state-of-the-art observatory, swamp nature centre based in the urban core, equestrian park, Zoo, performing arts theatre, arboretum, botanical garden, a water park with the only surfing simulator in the state, golf courses throughout the parish and an expansive 30,000-foot concrete, extreme sports park.

Who May Be Eligible
This program is available to anyone, but they have to enter the correct contest category depending on age. Youth are considered any individuals 15 years or younger by March 31, 2021. Individuals of any age may enter the professional category. Professional Photographers are referred to those individuals who earn 50% or more of their income through selling their photographs or photography services. BREC employees are not eligible for contest entry.
How to Apply
To become a participant in this program, all you need to do is send your three best photographs via email to conservation@brec.org in the form of a jpeg. Please also mention “Photo Contest Entry” in the subject and include the following information in the body of the email:
- First and Last Name
- Phone number
- Email address (this is how we will contact you to confirm entry and winners)
- Physical address
- Photo title
- BREC Conservation Area where the photo was taken
- Date photo taken
- Category of entry
