The University of Tampa is now encouraging students who possess talent and potential for achievement in English or writing to join its Tampa Writing Scholars Programme. This opportunity will be offered to all newly admitted students of the University of Tampa. Students entering an eligible course in the fall term at this institution will be given preference.
This Tampa Writing Scholars Programme carries an aim to find some of the most talented students for the university’s Department of English and Writing. It will help students refine their writing talent and cultivate new skills. It will recognize and reward their achievements to motivate them to do even better in their fields.

Who May Be Eligible?
All candidates are required to meet the following eligibility criteria:
- New entering student (fall term entry only);
- Demonstrate exceptional potential for achievement in English or writing;
- Major in English or writing;
- Students should also join the staff of a UT student publication upon arrival.
How to Apply
To be considered for this scholar programme, you first need to submit an application for your chosen course at the university and receive an offer of admission. After that, you need to send the following:
- 10-15 pages of creative and/or critical writing that can be poetry, short fiction, nonfiction, literary analysis, or a combination of forms
- 300- to 500-word personal statement emphasizing the role of literature and/or writing in your life

Benefits
Tampa Writing Scholars Programme is worth $6,000 per year. It is renewable for the duration of the student’s studies at UT. This award amount will help them pursue their chosen course at the University of Tampa without any dependency on loan.
