Pre-Study Course – Academic English
The Pre-Study Course – Academic English is designed for students who already have a good command of English but want to be able to communicate on a high level, especially in an academic environment. The course helps to improve general and academic language skills, preparing participants for undergraduate and postgraduate studies. Students will learn in small groups and interact with each other in an inspiring international atmosphere. Directly after the course, students have the option to take the TOEIC test at our institution.
Target Group: Students enrolled in English-speaking degree programs and prospective students (Bachelor’s and Master’s students)
This course is ideal for students about to start a study program in English. In order to better manage the challenges of studying in a foreign language, students will become acquainted with the scientific language and train their academic writing skills. Conversation is also an important component of the course: in small groups, students will develop their speaking skills, gaining confidence to be successful in their studies and to participate in campus life.

English Intensive Course: English Communication Skills & English for Academic Purposes
The intensive language training program is an effective method to learn English in small groups. The courses strongly emphasize active communication in the foreign language. The goal of these language courses is to help you improve your listening, reading, writing and speaking skills, and learn, practice and expand your vocabulary and knowledge of grammar and phonetics. Courses will be taught by native-speaking instructors from Great Britain, the USA, Australia, New Zealand or Canada.
Target Group: The foreign language courses are designed for German and international (prospective) students and graduates with a minimum age of 18 who seek an authentic experience and real immersion into a foreign language. Most participants who join the courses are 20 to 30 years old.

The intensive courses of the Summer and Winter University at the Language Teaching Institute of the University of Freiburg offer you various opportunities. The course consists of four-hour morning classes. In the afternoons you can intensify your language competence through individual practice in our digitalized language laboratory and through participation in seminars in English. UC Irvine Division of Continuing Education hosts a number of free English language courses on Coursera, an education company that partners with top universities and organizations to offer free online courses. Specializations Offered: Academic English: Writing, Master Intermediate Grammar, Advanced Grammar and Punctuation, Advanced Academic Speaking and Listening, and Teaching English: Intermediate Grammar.
Target Group: UC Irvine Division of Continuing Education’s sequence of courses on Coursera are designed for learners with intermediate English skills.
All of the following courses are available for free if taken on a standalone basis. Courses can be taken as part of a Specialization for an additional cost.
