The Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance is announcing the 2020 Stewardship Scholar Essay Contest. The students who self-identify as Black, indigenous, or a person of colour and are enrolled as an undergraduate at a college, university, technical school, or vocational institution in the spring 2021 academic year are encouraged to apply for the essay contest.
The purpose of the 2020 Stewardship Scholar Essay Contest is to allow the students to find their voice on protecting wilderness. The scholarship contest will give a chance to students to win a cash scholarship towards education.
The Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance (SUWA) is a wilderness preservation organization formed in 1983. The organization is based in Salt Lake City, Utah, with field offices in Washington, D.C. and Moab, Utah. The organization formed in 1983 and is a partner in the Utah Wilderness Coalition, a coalition of organizations nationwide that support federal wilderness designation for deserving public lands in Utah.

Who May be Eligible
The applicants interested in registering for the 2020 Stewardship Scholar Essay Contest must abide by the eligibility criteria-
- The applicants must be self-identified as Black, Indigenous, and a Person of Color.
- Applicants must be enrolled at least half-time as an undergraduate at a college, university, technical school, or vocational institution in the Spring 2021 academic year.
How to Apply
To apply for the 2020 Stewardship Scholar Essay Contest, the applicants must frame an essay drawn from personal experience. The applicant must mention their name, student ID, and contact details. The submissions must be sent as a Word doc to scholar@suwa.org.

Benefits
The 2020 Stewardship Scholar Essay Contest will award the winner $1000 and $500 to the two semi-finalists. The scholarship will support the winner with financial assistance for education. The winner will be able to cover up the cost of tuition, books, etc.
