Los Angeles Federal Credit Union has emerged with an opportunity to help high school students and college students fund their higher education in their dream universities. LAFCU has arranged the Jack C. Mathews Scholarships for the academic year 2022-2023. Five scholarships of $2,000 each will be awarded to young scholars on the basis of their academic standing, extracurricular achievements, and admission essays.
This scholarship is extended exclusively to students that are current members of the Los Angeles Federal Credit Union. Eligible students are high school graduates of 2022 or a student currently attending a college, university, or trade school who will have attained a minimum 2.50 GPA. Winners are selected based on their academic transcript, extracurricular activities, community service, and essay.

Who Is Eligible?
- The applicants must be current members of the Los Angeles Federal Credit Union (but not LAFCU employees nor a family member of an employee).
- The applicants must be high school students graduating in 2022 who will attend a college, university, or trade school in Fall 2022, or be a student currently attending a college, university, or trade school.
- The applicants must have a minimum 2.50 GPA.
How to Apply?
Interested applicants are required to mail the application form along with the supporting documents in PDF format to marketingdept@LAFCU.org by the deadline or send it physically to the following address: Scholarship Committee (c/o Mktg Dept-Students) Los Angeles Federal Credit Union P.O. Applicants must submit documents such as a copy of the most recent academic transcripts, one letter of recommendation, from a teacher, mentor, or a concerned adult who is not related to the applicant’s list of extracurricular activities, or an honors outline of community service or involvement Verification of acceptance and/or enrollment into an accredited college or trade school. Write a typed, one-page double-spaced essay, on the following question: Since the COVID19 pandemic has altered how people access financial services, how would you convince your friends and family of the benefits of credit union membership, such as, what beneficial products and services can LAFCU provide?”.
Benefits
The selected candidates will be provided a scholarship of $2,000 each to cover the expenses incurred to study higher education programs at their respective universities or college.
