Heising Simons Foundation 51 Pegasi b Fellowship in Planetary Astronomy

Students who have completed their doctoral degree in astronomy, physics, planetary sciences and art, chemistry mathematics, engineering, or related discipline have a great chance to win the Heising Simons Foundation fellowship. Heising-Simons Foundation has taken a great initiative to the fields of planetary astrology through their great 51 Pegasi b Fellowship in Planetary astronomy.

Heising Simons Foundation 51 Pegasi b Fellowship allows students to complete their theoretical, experimental, and observational research in planetary astronomy.  It supports postdoctoral fellows to advance the first understanding of exoplanets, solar system science, planet formation and evolution, planetary atmosphere, and other related topics.

The Heising Simons Foundation 51 Pegasi b Fellowship was established in 2017. This scholarship is named after the first exoplanet which was discovered orbiting Sun-like a star. All the 51 Pegasi b scholars make a considerable contribution in understanding the accelerating of planetary system formation and evolution, new advancing technologies, and discovering Earth-like worlds.

Who May Be Eligible?

To be eligible for the 51 Pegasi b Fellowship in Planetary Astronomy, an applicant should qualify for the following:

  • Applicant must have a doctoral degree in astronomy, earth science, and planetary sciences, physics, engineering, mathematics, and chemistry. Applicant must have received their doctoral degree after August 31, 2011, and before August 31, 2020.
  • Candidates may come from any academic institution or research lab both naturally or internationally.

How to apply?

Candidates should submit all their documents and complete application. Applicants have to fill-up the fellowship form with all the supporting materials needed for the fellowship.

Applicants are requested to submit completed applications only and make the application information as brief as possible.

Supporting Documents

Following documents should be attached with the fellowship application form:

  • Candidates have to submit the abstracts of their PhD dissertation.
  • Curriculum vitae is needed
  • Samples of the applicant’s journal or publication should be attached with the application. At least three samples should be submitted.
  • Applicants should submit a summary of any previous research or current research. Applicants should maintain a single page summary length.
  • Fellows have to submit a rationale for the host institution of 1 page.
  • Two letters of recommendation should be attached with the application. These letters can be from the applicant’s PhD advisor, a senior collaborator, or a scientific mentor.
  • Applicant should write a proposal explaining what they are going to work as 51 Pegasi b scholars. This proposal should not exceed more than three pages.
  • A personal statement about the applicant’s own experiences, educational and career goals, extracurricular activities, professional skills, and how this fellowship will help you achieve your goals is needed.

  • $3, 75,000 fellowship fund for independent research for three years to cover salary benefits, highly flexible discretionary spending, and indirect costs.
