Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowships

Are you a graduate or an undergraduate student pursuing a degree and need advanced training in language and area studies? Then here is a chance you should not miss on. Center for Slavic and East European Studies at the Ohio State University is proudly offering some fellowships to level up the career of the students. The eligibility requirements and benefits of each program are different.

The purpose behind initiating these worthy fellowships is working on the need for advanced training in language and area studies. These fellowships are created to expand students’ knowledge and expertise in the desired language by providing amazing training opportunities. These fellowships are designed to enhance students’ language skills and knowledge of a foreign country or region through coursework.

The Center for Slavic and East European Studies was founded in 1965 by Professor Leon Twarog. The centre is created to promote Central Europe, Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Russia, and Southeastern Europe. The Center for Slavic and East European Studies or CSEES introduces some programs keenly created just to promote the development of languages and offering full financial support and training to the students who are interested in advancing their language studies.

Who May Be Eligible?

The eligibility requirements and benefits of each program are different. Check the basic requirements given below for each program:

Applicants should be a graduate or an undergraduate student who is pursuing a degree and need advanced training in language and area studies.

How to Apply

All the interested candidates must check the requirement of the program they are interested in applying for. Fellows should ensure the eligibility of the program they are applying for. Applicants must contact the language department that oversees instruction in the language to ensure the language and level that the fellow is applying for will be offered. All the candidates should contact the FLAS coordinator, Eileen Kunkler, at kunkler.10@osu.edu to discuss their application and other queries.

Benefits

The benefits of each program are different. Some benefits are mentioned below:

  • Graduate and Professional Students Fellowship: Up to $5,000 of tuition and fee support, $2,500 stipend, Possibility of a further $1,000 for airfare reimbursement.
  • Undergraduate Students Fellowship: Up to $5,000 of tuition and fee support, $2,500 stipend, Possibility of a further $1,000 for airfare reimbursement.
  • Academic Year Fellowships Graduate and Professional Students: Up to $18,000 of tuition and fee support, $15,000 stipend.

Application Deadline

Applications for fellowships are now open. The application deadline is Monday, February 1, 2021. Apply as early as possible.
