Fish Art Contest for Grade K-12

Wildlife Forever is delighted to announce that they are accepting entries now for the 2022 Fish Art. The free international art and writing competition is the perfect way to inspire youth in kindergarten through 12th grade to discover the outdoors through creative art and writing. Young people across the world can use their artistic talents while learning about fish, fishing, and aquatic conservation. Participants can win prizes; national and even international recognition. The Fish Art Contest was initially inspired in 1997 by a 5th grader’s homework assignment and has grown into an international competition introducing young people to the wonders of fish, the joy of fishing, and the importance of aquatic conservation. The Fish Art Contest uses art, science, and creative writing to foster connections to the outdoors and inspire the next generation of stewards.

The Fish Art Contest is open to all youth in grades K-12 (ages 5-18). To compete Participants will submit an entry consisting of a completed entry form, an original illustration of a fish of your choice, and a one-page creative writing submission (required for grades 4-12). The 2021 contest deadline is March 31st, 2022. Both digital and printable entry forms will be available. International participants are encouraged to submit their entries online. Winners will be announced at the beginning of May 2022. Prizes will be sent by mail after winners are announced. 

Wildlife Forever is a 501(c)3 nonprofit conservation charity. Audits reveal 94% of all donations go directly to the mission. Since 1987, Wildlife Forever has funded conservation works in all 50 states and Canada with more than 1,500 projects throughout North America. Its mission is to conserve America’s wildlife heritage through conservation education, preservation of habitat, and management of fish and wildlife.

Who is Eligible?

Following are the eligibility requirements for the following scholarship contest:

  • The Fish Art Contest is free and open to all persons in grades K-12 (aged 5-18 years old).
  • Only one entry is allowed per person
  • Previous entries are not eligible.

How to Apply?

The interested individuals are required to submit an entry consisting of a completed entry form, an original illustration of a fish of your choice, and a one-page creative writing submission (required for grades 4-12).

  • With an adult, review the Rules & Guidelines for the 2022 Contest
  • Select any fish species of your choice. 
  • Create your State-Fish Art Entry consisting of two parts:

Part A
An original Horizontal illustration between 8.5″- 9″ tall and 11″- 12″ wide in size featuring a species of your choice.

Part B
A personally written essay (one side of one page) relating to your chosen fish species. You may also choose to answer the question “Why do you think it is important to protect our lakes, rivers, estuaries, and coastlines?” Essays will be judged and awarded, but are not required, for contestants in Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade or from countries other than the USA.

  • Complete a contest entry form given on the scholarship portal. Be sure to choose the Entry Form for your state, if applicable. 
  • Submit your Entry.

Option 1:  Complete either an online entry or print out a physical entry form. Once completed, mail your entry to the address listed at the top of your Entry Form.

Option 2: Complete and submit your artwork online. All international students should be submitting their artwork digitally.

Benefits

The applications submitted by you will be reviewed and judged by the scholarship committee and out of all, the most deserving candidates will be selected as the winners of the following scholarship. Application Deadline

The deadline for the application submission for the following contest is March 31, 2022. No applications will be considered after this date.
