Carol E. Macpherson Memorial Scholarship for Undergraduates

A memorial scholarship was announced in the name of Carol E. Macpherson. The scholarship approval committee will use the following criteria for awarding scholarships: a well-written personal statement, two strong reference letters indicating educational goals & academic promise and evidence of past academic achievements. This scholarship is available to any woman-identified student with at least a five-year gap in educational career and shows financial need as determined by the FAFSA. There are additional considerations that are not required, like pursuing a first undergraduate degree and/or the first generation in the family to attend college (parents/guardians do not hold a degree from a four-year college).

Scholarships are awarded to talented students who have received academic achievements in educational programs. With the ever-changing cost of tuitions, scholarships have become a necessity for students from poorer backgrounds to afford their education to receive diplomas and/or degrees. Scholarships are also beneficial to people who are facing financial issues, lifestyle challenges and/or returning to school after a long gap. The amount awarded is meant to be used for education-related expenses, and depending on the type of scholarship, it can be renewed. Also, it can be used for living expenses like food and travel costs. Students can easily accumulate debts while taking loans for their education, and awards like these are meant to reduce that burden so that students can concentrate on their studies.

The Carol E. Macpherson Memorial Scholarship Fund is a well-known private family scholarship founded in 1975. It has helped returned women students succeed, and these scholarships are provided to promising, motivated women-identified students who have a five–year or longer accumulative gap in their post-secondary education and are seeking an undergraduate or graduate degree (Full or Half time) from a Minnesota higher education institution. The Carol E. Macpherson Memorial Scholarship was established to assist women like Carol who are seekers. It memorializes Carol’s undying concern for fairness, for providing opportunities for women to find new paths, for the value of a thinking mind to ask difficult questions, and for respecting the nurturing roles, women continue to play even as they take on various new responsibilities in their families and communities.
