American Association of Colleges of Nursing is looking forward to accepting applications for its fantastic Deborah E. Trautman Future for Nurse Leader Scholarships. These programs are funded by Liaison International and were established in honour of AACN’s President and CEO Dr Deborah Trautman. These programs include scholarship and leadership development program. These scholarships target to recognize talented nursing students who hold the potential to work in leadership positions in academic nursing. To qualify for these funding programs, students must be in master or doctoral nursing programs offered at AACN member schools affiliated with NursingCAS.
Each year with the support of Liaison International, the American Association of Colleges of Nursing offers up to two scholarships for nursing students. These programs provide the participant with not only financial aid but also a chance to participate in a one-on-one leadership development experience with Dr Trautman. These programs will prepare students to work efficiently in the field of nursing by providing them with opportunities to practice roles and responsibilities. Ultimately, these scholarships will help develop dedicated nurses that our healthcare system needs today.
American Association of Colleges of Nursing in-short AACN is the national voice for academic nursing. It is an organization of 840 member schools of nursing at public and private universities nationwide. It has been dedicated to establishing quality standards for nursing education; assist schools in implementing those standards; influence the nursing profession to improve health care; and promote public support for professional nursing education, research, and practice. This organization was started 1969 with 121 member institutions and now it has grown into a comprehensive and leading foundation.

Who May Be Eligible?

- Applicants must be students in master or doctoral nursing programs offered at AACN member schools affiliated with NursingCAS, the nation’s only centralized application service for nursing programs;
- Entrants must illustrate high academic achievement and list past experiences that show a commitment to academic nursing;
- Aspirants should be members of AACN’s Graduate Nursing Student Academy;
- Candidates should be currently enrolled and in good standing at their school of nursing.
How to Apply
All interested recipients can register in this program by completing an online application form. Entrants are requested for providing valid and complete information in their form as the decision will be made based on the provided information. Incomplete and invalid details can cause disqualification.
Supporting Documents
As supporting documents, candidates can provide the following:
- A scholarship application including biographical information and contact information for a faculty advisor;
- A concise essay (no more than 500 words) outlining career achievements, desire to aspire to a future leadership position in academia, and your vision for academic nursing;
- A CV or resume that includes key milestones related to your leadership and career development;
- Goals (3-4 bullets) for what you hope to achieve during the leadership development experience with Dr. Trautman;
- Two letters of recommendation, including one from the nursing school dean or director;
- A signed commitment statement, agreeing to complete the 3-day leadership development component of this program.
Benefits
The foundation will provide up to two scholarships each worth $3,500. $2,000 of the total amount can be used to cover educational expenses which are sent directly to the students. Up to $1,500 of the scholarship award will be used to cover travel expenses for the three-day leadership development program.
