Does chemistry fascinate you? Are you good at combining chemicals, finding new formulas? Do you dream of making a positive impact on the field of chemistry and be a part of world-famous researches in the future? If you can relate yourself to any of these statements, then you should apply for the “You Be the Chemist Challenge” this year. This competition is conducted by Chemical Educational Foundation to encourage young students who desire to work in this field and make meaningful contributions. You Be the Chemist Challenge is a collaborative, multilevel student science video competition that celebrates the science of chemistry and promotes STEM careers. 5th-8th grade students are eligible to enter teams of four.
There are two participation tracks for this program: Virtual and in-person. Team coordinators will have to select one of these two tracks to enter their teams in this program. Because of the restrictions posed to combat COVID, parents of the participants are allowed to serve as a team coordinators during the 2021-2022 program cycle. This contest will run from October 6, 2021, through December 31, 2021. Teams will have to create a video based on prompt exploring chemistry concepts that are evaluated by a panel of judges. Teams that are taking part and will be competing virtually, will have to answer multiple-choice and short-answer questions during the event. Interested students can register themselves for this program through the online portal of “You Be the Chemist Challenge”.
The National Association of Chemical Distributors (NACD) started an organization under the name of Chemical Educational Foundation in 1989. Since then, it has been devoted to encouraging students, engaging educators, and strengthening communities to build a better world to live in through chemistry. It makes available accessible science programs and offers hands-on experiences to build the excitement and value of chemistry and STEM careers with K-8 students.

Who is Eligible?
5th-8th grade students who are eligible to compete in teams of four may participate in this program.
How to Apply?
To enter, applicants will have to create a video on the suggested theme. Rules regarding the video and theme can be found by clicking here. Entrants can send their entry through the online portal of this program where they will be presented with two options. The first option on the online portal is for those who are new to this website and don’t have a CEF account, and the second one is for those who are the holder of a CEF account. The application form can be accessed through these options.
