The essay contest encourages young people’s minds to reach America’s history, along with their own experiences in modern American society and get in-depth knowledge about the national history.
The Veterans of Foreign Wars is formally recognized as Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States. It is a company of U.S. war veterans, which known as military service members brawl in wars, campaigns, or expeditions on foreign land, waters, or airspace.

Who May Be Eligible
To be eligible, the applicants must match all the following criteria:
- The program is open to 6tth, 7th- and 8th-grade students.
- Applicants must enroll by the deadline in public, private, parochial school, or home study program in the U.S.
- Dependents of U.S. military or civilian personnel in overseas schools are also eligible to participate.
How to Apply
To enter, Applicants need to download the application entry form and write and record a three to a five-minute broadcast script on the given theme:

Benefits
The national first-place winner will receive a $30,000 scholarship paid directly to the recipient’s American university, college or vocational/technical school. The first place winner from each VFW Department (state) wins a minimum scholarship of $1,000 and an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C.
