Who May Be Eligible

  • Students who are seeking first-time graduate-level admission to UIUC are eligible. Currently-enrolled and previously-enrolled UIUC graduate students are not eligible.
  • Students of any nationality or citizenship are eligible.
  • Only those students intending to enter during the 2021-22 academic year can apply.
  • Students intending to enter in Spring 2022 can submit a nomination, but their fellowship will not begin until Fall 2022.
  • The DGF-HA is available only for to students entering the following PhD programs:
  • Socio-Cultural & Linguistic Anthropology (humanities-oriented specializations only)
    • Architecture (History & Theory specialization only)
    • Art History
    • Classics
    • Communication
    • Comparative & World Literature
    • East Asian Languages & Cultures
    • English
    • French & Italian
    • Germanic Languages & Literatures
    • History
    • Landscape Architecture (History & Theory specialization only)

How to Apply

Students who have successfully enrolled in an approved course are eligible to nominate in this program. To nominate in this program, you have to follow the following steps:

  • Log into Slate
  • Find the Applicant
  • Click on the GC App Tab
  • On the right navigation, click on the Fellowship Nominations form link
  • Scroll to the bottom of the page and click “Edit.”

Benefits

These fellowships will be renewed for three years. Candidates will get the following perks:

  • $25,000 stipend per 12-month academic year.
  • Full waiver of tuition, service fee, AFMFA fee, library/IT fee, and health service fee.
  • Basic dental and vision coverage.
  • Partial payment of the graduate student health insurance fee.

Application Deadline

Applications are open until January 15, 2021. After this date, candidates should not send their application for these programs as their applications will not be considered.
