Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine

The University of Pikeville – Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine (UP-KYCOM) was established in 1997. It is a private, non-profit, osteopathic medical school located in Pikeville, in the U.S. state of Kentucky. Students who apply must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, taken the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT), completed and passed 8 semester hours in each category of Organic Chemistry, General Chemistry, and Physics, completed and passed 6 semester hours of English Composition studies, and completed and passed 12 semester hours of Biological Sciences.

KYCOM also offers programs to introduce prospective students in lower levels of education to the school and its mission. The Osteopathic Medical Scholars Program (OMSP) offers those incoming undergraduate freshmen who are accepted both a bachelor’s degree and a degree of Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine by admitting them into KYCOM upon completion of undergraduate coursework at the University of Pikeville, should they meet program requirements. KYCOM also offers a program known as the Professional Education Preparation Program (PEPP).

The Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) is a private, non-profit graduate school of medicine, dentistry, and pharmacy. Founded in 1992, it confers degrees in osteopathic medicine (D.O.), pharmacy (PharmD), and dentistry (DMD), as well as master’s degrees in Health Services Administration, Biomedical Sciences, and Medical Education. University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine

The University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine (UNECOM) is accredited by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA). The college is part of the University of New England, and grants two degrees: the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) degree and a Master of Medical Education Leadership. Founded in 1978, it is a private, non-profit osteopathic medical school, located in Biddeford, Maine. In addition to the DO degree, students at UNECOM may complete Masters in Public Health or a Master of Science in Medical Education Leadership (MMEL). The college also offers fellowships in anatomy and osteopathic manipulative medicine.

The first and second years of the DO program consist of the basic sciences, along with structured, standardized patient encounters, while the third and fourth years consist of clinical clerkships in hospitals and clinics throughout New England and the Mid-Atlantic States. Each third-year student is required to complete 6-week rotations in Family Medicine, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Psychiatry, Surgery, and Pediatrics, as well as a 12-week rotation in Internal Medicine. Fourth-year students are required to complete 4-week clerkships in emergency medicine, osteopathic manipulative medicine, a surgical subspecialty, a subspecialty of pediatrics or internal medicine, and rural health, through Maine’s AHEC program.

The University of North Texas Health Science Center (UNTHSC) is regionally accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
