The Ron Brown Scholarship Program

Applications for the Ron Brown Scholarship Program are currently open to apply. Students are cordially invited by Ron Brown Scholar Fund to gain benefits from their program. The scholarship is open for all the Black/African Americans who are US citizens or hold permanent resident visa card. Applicants must be a current high school senior to be eligible for the program.

The Ron Brown Scholar Program’s mission is to advance higher education and improve the lives of public service-minded and intellectually gifted African Americans and accelerate their progress into impactful leadership roles and opportunities. The deserving recipient of the program will get adequate funds to overcome their financial hurdles.

The Ron Brown Scholar Fund works like a 501(c)3 public charity, managed by an independent Board of Trustees.  The Program is named for the late Secretary of Commerce and inspired by his dedication to public service, which encourages civic engagement among Scholars while promoting academic excellence, community and lifelong interactions.  Recipients are young African Americans of outstanding promise who are offered academic scholarships, service opportunities and leadership experiences.

Who May Be Eligible?

Interested applicants must meet up with the given criteria to be eligible:

  • Applicants must be Black/African American.
  • Students must excel academically.
  • Applicants must exhibit exceptional leadership potential.
  • Candidates must participate in community service activities.
  • Must demonstrate financial need.
  • You must be a US citizen or hold a visa card for permanent residents.
  • At the time of the application, a current high school senior must be present.
  • NOTE: Current college students are not eligible to apply.

How to Apply

Students eligible for the program are asked to download a pdf application form. The complete scholarship form is to be submitted by mail to the given address and the required credentials. Guidance counsellors may submit their letters of recommendation by email at info@ronbrown.org before January 9, 2021. Incomplete, emailed, or faxed applications will be void.

Supporting Documents

  • Must list their extracurricular, employment, community or other activities in order of importance to you.
  • Must list any significant awards or honours they have received during high school for academic or extracurricular achievements.
  • Essays: You must respond to both (A) and (B). Each essay should be no longer than 500 words.
  • Please choose the one activity you listed as most important in question #1 and explain why it is significant.
  • Send one essay as part of a college application that you expect to send or have submitted. This may be about any subject. If an essay is not required for your college application, please submit an essay on the subject of your choice.

Benefits

Ron Brown Scholars program is four-year $40,000 scholarships ($10,000 each year) for the most talented and economically-challenged high school seniors. They demonstrate a keen interest in public service, community engagement, business entrepreneurship and global citizenship. Recipients may use renewable scholarships to attend an accredited four-year college or university of their choice within the United States.

Application Deadline

The Ron Brown Scholarship application is currently available until the deadline of January 9, 2021, for this year. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted.
