Susquehanna Folk Festival Liars Contest 2021

The Susquehanna Folk Music Society (SFMS) has organized the 2021 Susquehanna Folk Festival with a Liars Contest, in which people who love telling tales and shaggy dog stories can participate this summer. This Liars Contest is a juried competition, emceed this year by Andy Offutt Irwin. Storytellers can apply by submitting a video representing their work, and nine contestants will be selected to participate in the live-streamed competition. Any individual who can tell a good story can enter, and also, these stories must be family-friendly, humorous, and new to the festival. The stories that include the theme, “Making Lemonade,” can get a bonus in scoring. This contest does not require an application fee to enter or to win.

Contests have always been a fun, creative, and friendly way to promote sponsors and individuals with skills and talents. Students can receive an opportunity to win cash awards and/or assorted prizes while simultaneously engaging in interesting activities. Moreover, people can improve their storytelling and video-making skills. Through contests like these, they can receive valuable feedback and know whether their entries are award-worthy or not. Also, they can understand what they can improve in the current and future entries.

The Susquehanna Folk Music Society (SFMS) is a non-profit education and arts organization based in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. They are dedicated to the advancement, promotion, and preservation of traditional, contemporary, and international folk music and folk culture. Every year SFMS organizes festivals that present dozens of events, from concerts to big summer festivals to intimate workshops. These events feature artists from around the globe as well as hometown performers. Many of these events have a “hands-on” component that strengthens the connections between music and folks. In addition, SFMS brings folk culture into local schools each year through Arts in Education residencies.
