In an effort of encouraging young artists and supporting them, the Society for the Performing Arts has made possible a fantastic art contest for students. This competition is currently open for applications for 2021. It is an annual art contest that aligns the visual arts with SPA’s main stage programming. Each year, many talented students from the Houston area send their entry to compete in this program. They win not only a wonderful cash prize but a chance to get their artwork exhibited around the city. “RESILIENCE” has been chosen as the theme of this year’s 23rd art contest in response to the difficulties experienced by the Greater Houston community. All Pre-Kindergarten through 12th-grade students within the Greater Houston area are welcome to participate in this year’s program.
Resilience is referred to as the ability to bounce back from adversity or stay strong in the face of challenges and overcome them with determination. As per the psychologist, resilience is a process of adapting well in the face of adversity, tragedy, or stress. It is also related to the capacity to recover quickly from difficulties and personal growth. Sometimes, adverse events take place in our life, but they don’t have to determine the outcome of our lives. Developing resilience helps us grow, overcome any challenges easily and contribute to improving our lives along the way. This year for this contest, aspirants can submit their entry through a virtual submission process.
Society for the Performing Arts is the largest nonprofit presenting organization of its kind in the Southwest. Every year, this foundation presents internationally acclaimed artists from the entire performing arts spectrum, traditional to avant-garde alike, from large orchestras and dance companies to recitalists and solo performers, for an entire season of events. It has been dedicated to connecting the audience to artists through performance and learning experience. It encourages and fosters the passion for performing art to find a new understanding about ourselves, form community, inspire dialogue, and enrich our world.
