Nowadays, increasing accident cases caused by distracted driving have become a matter of large concern. People know that distracted driving is dangerous and can be caused serious accidents. Still, there are many of us who are not ready to leave such a habit. Distract driving is about getting indulged in other activities while driving. These activities can be texting, calling, and using social media that don’t let the driver focus on driving. In an effort of encouraging people to develop and embrace safe driving habits, Project Yellow Light Scholarship Competitions have been initiated. There are three scholarship competitions available for students: billboard contest, video contest, and radio contest. If you are a high school student or enrolled in college, then you are invited to take part in these competitions.
There are three competitions so you have the option to choose your favorite one. All these three scholarship contents share one mission of spreading awareness among people about the dangers of distracted driving and encourage them to practice safe driving. Through these programs, you can contribute to keeping our road and people even safer. Moreover, you will get handsome prize money for your education and with this free money, you can reduce your financial burden related to your studies. To get selected for these programs, what you need to do is to send a video or billboard design or radio spot created to motivate, persuade and encourage your peers to not drive distracted. The application process is quite simple. You can apply just by filling out an online application form and sending creation.
Project Yellow Light Scholarship Competitions was established in the honor of the memory of Hunter Garner by his family. Hunter Garner died in a car crash in 2007 and his family created these programs as a legacy of him. Through these programs, Hunter’s family wanted to put a stop to one of the leading causes of death which is car crashes.

Benefits
For the video competition:
- Winners will receive a scholarship in the amount of $8,000. Videos are due April 1.
For the billboard competition:
- Successful applicants will get a scholarship in the amount of $2,000. Billboard designs are due March 1.
For the radio competition:
- Selected candidates will gain a scholarship in the amount of $2,000. Recordings are due April 1.
