Nevada Radon Poster Contest for Students

Do you possess good artistic skills? If you said yes, then Nevada Radon Poster Contest is the right opportunity for you to use your skills and make some money at the same time. This is a wonderful contest open to all youth ages 9 to 14 registered at public, private, territorial, tribal, Department of Defense, and home schools. As a participant of this contest, you can use your artistic skills to aware the people about the dangers of radon as well as win a good cash price that can help you cover your educational expenses. Children can also enter this programme through a sponsoring group.

The main focus of the exciting contest is to encourage Nevada students who have good artistic skills and increase awareness of the dangers of having elevated levels of radon in the home. This contest is sponsored by Nevada, Reno Extension’s Nevada Radon Education Programme, and the Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health. Radon is a radioactive, colourless, naturally occurring, odourless and tasteless gas that comes from the decay of uranium. It collects in homes and can increase a person’s risk of developing lung cancer. Participants whose poster will communicate the message of the risk related to radon will be appreciated and provided a wonderful cash award. There is no fee to enter this contest and the application process is easy.

Who May Be Eligible?

This contest is for all youth ages 9 to 14 registered at public, private, territorial, tribal, Department of Defense, and home schools. Children can also enter through a sponsoring group, such as art, computer, library, reading, science, scouting, youth or 4-H Youth Development clubs.

How to Apply

All entrants will have to create a poster with crayons, markers, paint, collage, pencil, photographs, or computer graphics. That poster should communicate one of the following messages: 1) What is radon? 2) Where does radon come from? 3) How does radon get into our homes? 4) Radon can cause lung cancer, and 5) Test your home for radon. Posters will be judged on content accuracy, visual communication of the topic, reproducibility, and originality. All entries must be sent at the Extension office at 4955 Energy Way in Reno by October 31, 2020.

Benefits

The top three winners will get gift cards of their choice worth: $75 for first, $60 for the second, and $45 for third place. They also win gift cards for their teachers or sponsoring organization’s representative toward classroom supplies. Plus, the first-place winner will be given the chance to enter into the National Radon Poster Contest, which also offers cash prizes.
