Kolstad Award College Scholarship

Soaring Society of America is pleased to inform that they are offering scholarships for students who are in desperate need of funds for college-level study. The following scholarship grants one-time scholarship amount of around or up to $10,000 for funding the post-secondary education of the students. The applicant’s age must be between 14-25. If the winner’s age is not yet eligible for enrolling in college then the grant money will be held until such time and be transferred once he is ready to get into college.

To be eligible for this scholarship, the applicant must be a young soaring pilot, SSA member, and USA citizen. The purpose of this scholarship is to inspire young pilots to progress from basic glibber flying to advanced sport soaring and to attend college. The deadline for the scholarship is September 30 and the winners will be announced by the end of June. The grant is intended towards helping to study with their college expenses. The amount to be paid will be directly transferred to the academic institution of the applicant’s choice.

The Soaring Society of America, Inc was founded in 1932 as the umbrella organization in the United States for fostering and promoting all phases of soaring, both nationally and internationally. SSA represents the collective interests of its members (individuals, clubs, businesses, chapters). The organizations also focus on providing services to its members including supplying the electronic publication e-news and the monthly printed soaring magazine.

Who is Eligible?

Following are the eligibility requirements that need to be satisfied for participating in the following scholarship contest:

  • The applicant’s age must be between 14 – 25
  • The applicant must be a US citizen
  • The applicant must be a soaring pilot or SSA member.

How to Apply?

The interested individuals are required to fill out the application form provided on the scholarship portal and submit it. Additionally, the candidate is required to write a one-page personal statement that includes the following:

  • Involvement in soaring organization, school & community
  • Present Plans for further education and eventual vocation
  • Soaring Achievements
  • Sailplanes Flown, awards won, SSA Badges, FAI Badges/Diplomas, FAA Licenses

The statement must be free of grammatical and spelling errors. The application form must be completed by providing all the correct and reliable information and attaching all the below-mentioned documents.

Supporting Documents

Following documents are needed to be attached with your application:

  • Three letters of recommendation from soaring acquaintances or mentors.
  • Name and addresses of 3 references who have known the candidate for so long.

Benefits

All the applications will be reviewed and judged, and out of all, the most deserving candidate will be chosen and be announced as the winner. The winner will be awarded a one-time scholarship amount of up to $10,000 for academic study.

Application Deadline

The deadline for application submission for the following scholarship is September 30, 2021. No applications will be considered after the deadline.
