Clean Waterways Wilmington Contest for K-12 Students

The Clean Waterways Wilmington Art Contest by the City of Wilmington is an art contest open to all students from grades K to 12 attending public, private, charter, parochial, or homeschooled within the city of Wilmington. Interested participants can check if their school is eligible by entering the address in the official map. If the school is within the city’s boundary line, then they are eligible to enter. This year, there is a colouring page section just for Kindergarten, first, and second-grade students. The main theme of this art contest is Restore our Earth. Students must draw what restoring the Earth means to them. There are three grade divisions for the drawings, namely 3-5 grades, 6-8 grades, and 9-12 grades. There will be twelve winners in total who will receive a prize package consisting of a VISA gift card and art supplies.

Art contests are usually conducted by schools or organizations to uncover and nurture natural talents among students. These art contests are more than just participation and winning prizes. They are about the children and teenagers finding a platform to display their uniqueness, creativity, and artistic abilities. It is life-changing experiences and effects through drawing and colouring of visual arts. The Partnership for the Delaware Estuary (PDE), a nonprofit organization, is dedicated to protecting the Delaware Estuary. This Delaware Estuary is known to supply clean drinking water for many people while simultaneously they support a booming industrial region. They contribute $12 billion every year to their local community, and the waterways provide plenty of free outdoor fun where one can hike the trails, fish the bay, and watch wildlife. The PDE was established in 1996 and now is one of the twenty-eight National Estuary Programs designated by Congress.

Who May Be Eligible

  • Kindergarten to 12-grade students residing and studying in the City of Wilmington.

How to Apply

Eligible participants can submit their artwork and colouring page by April 24, 2021. The artwork must be related to the theme Restore our Earth and submitted on 8 ½” x 11” paper with signed parent/guardian consent. Students/Parents/Guardians/Teachers can opt for an online method where they can scan and submit the image or an offline method where they can print out the form, complete it and post it to the mentioned address.
