Kentucky Derby Museum is holding a wonderful competition called “Black Heritage in Racing: Community Art Contest”. As a part of its continuous efforts to build the new Black Heritage in Racing exhibit and experiences around Black voices and stories, the museum has started this program which is open to all United States residents 18 years of age or over. Black, Indigenous, Persons of Color are especially encouraged to enter this program. All entries submitted to this contest will qualify for various amazing prizes including a $2,000 grand prize sponsored by Derby City Gaming. Artists across the country are invited to participate. Entrants don’t need to be professional. Individuals with any level of artistic talent can send their entry to compete.
The winning entries will be displayed at the Kentucky Derby Museum and Watson’s, the co-sponsor of the contest. Other artwork will be displayed by the organization’s community partners: the Kentucky Center for African American Heritage, KMAC Museum, Louisville Free Public Library, and the Muhammad Ali Center. Individuals who are interested in being a part of this program are requested to come to the Museum and view the Black Heritage in the racing exhibit to better prepare their artwork or view the virtual tour below for getting new ideas and inspiration. Entries can be submitted through the online portal of the Kentucky Derby Museum.
Kentucky Derby Museum has been dedicated to educating, engage and exciting people about Kentucky Derby. It has become one of the main attractions in Louisville, and for a long time has been celebrating the legacy, tradition, hospitality, and pride of Kentucky Derby which is considered to be the world’s renowned event. Each year, the Kentucky Derby Museum witnesses more than 230,000 visitors.

Who is Eligible?
This program is available to all United States residents who are 18 years of age or over. BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, Persons of Color) will be given preference.
How to Apply?
Applicants can register for this program by filling out an online application form that should include all rights and complete information in order to be eligible. There is another form called the submission form that will also be filled in order to ensure entry to this program.
