Beat the Odds $4000 Scholarships for High School Students

Beat the odds scholarship program, started in 2007 to help students who are facing challenges on the path to success, by providing them with all resources and assistance they require for acquiring education. The Stand for Children Oregon in partnership with the Renaissance Foundation is offering another scholarship this year in view to help such students acquire the education they deserve. The following scholarship aims that students who are facing challenges in their lives such as family issues, financial issues, health issues, mental issues, etc. But in spite of all these problems, students are not giving up and keep succeeding in school.

 The purpose of this scholarship is to provide a platform or a stage for such students to come and tell their stories to others and inspire them with their courage. The recipients of this scholarship will be filmed for a biographical video and participate in all kinds of publicity-related activities. They may also be asked to speak at the different fundraising events stand for children hosts. It can be a great opportunity and exposure for a student to tell others your experience and their success story.

The following scholarship is a four-year renewable scholarship program. It is open for students studying in public high schools in Oregon. The award amount of the scholarship is $4,000 which is renewable.

Stand for children, Oregon is a nonprofit education advocacy organization that focuses on empowering students and providing them with all resources they need to have access to high-quality education. Their main focus is on those individuals whose potential is being overlooked or under-tapped because of their race, sexuality, first language, nationality, disability status, family status, etc.

Who is Eligible?

Following are the eligibility requirements that need to be satisfied for participating in the following scholarship contest:

  • The applicant must be a student enrolled in an Oregon, public high school and to be graduated in spring/summer 2022.
  • The applicant must have a minimum 3.0 GPA
  • The applicant must have succeeded despite hardships such as poverty, disability, homelessness, personal tragedy, or systemic inequalities.
  • The applicant must have participated in activities that are helpful to others
  • The applicant must have a demonstrated financial need.

How to Apply?

The interested individuals are required to fill out the application form provided on the scholarship portal and submit it. Additionally, the candidate is required to write a personal statement of around 500-1,000 words answering the following:

  • Explain the role that education has played in helping you overcome hardships such as poverty, disability, homelessness or personal tragedy.
  • Explain your educational and career goal.
  • Mention any volunteer work, community service or extracurricular activities you are involved in

The statement must be free of grammatical and spelling errors, and it must reflect your personality.

The application form must be completed by providing all the correct and reliable information and attaching all the below-mentioned documents.

  • An academic letter of recommendation (from the teacher, principal or any guidance counsellor).
  • A personal letter of recommendation (from any adult who knows you well)
  • Transcripts
  • Financial record

Benefits

The final recipients or winners of the scholarship amount will be awarded and celebrated in the odds award ceremony in November 2021. The winners will be given a scholarship amount of $4,000 which is renewable for up to 4 years.

Application Deadline

The deadline for application submission for the following scholarship is September 15, 2021. No applications will be considered after the deadline.
