The Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation is currently accepting applications for the prestigious Barry Goldwater Scholarship for the academic year 2021-2022. The program accepts matriculated junior or sophomore students currently pursuing a degree in an accredited 2- a year or 4-year institution during the academic year 2020-2021. Interested students are also required to be pursuing a research career in natural Sciences, Mathematics or Engineering.
The Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation understands that higher education can often be a financial burden for students aiming for research careers in S.T.E.M subjects. Costs of tuition, textbooks, commute, and residence can often be a financial burden for many. The scholarship is designed to ease that burden on deserving students so that they can realise their potential to the fullest.
Established in 1986 by the United States Congress, The Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation honours the life and work of Senator Barry Goldwater. He served the United States of America as a soldier and a senator for over 56 years. The foundation helps ensure that the United States is never short of highly qualified professionals in the fields of natural sciences, mathematics and engineering, critical subjects that are the drivers of modern innovation and society. Deserving students are selected based on ability and merit.

Who May Be Eligible?
Interested candidates must meet the requirements below to be eligible for applying:
- The student must be an enrolled Junior or Sophomore pursuing a degree in an accredited 2-year or 4-year higher education institution during the academic year 2020-2021. Due to COVID-19, Full-time enrollment in such institutions is not a requirement for the academic year 2020-2021. However, for purposes of the 2021 review, an assumption will be made that students will be enrolled full time for the academic year 2021-2022
- Applying students are required to pursue a research career in Natural Sciences, Mathematics or Engineering.
- Students must have a college grade point average of at least 3.00 on a 4.00 scale.
- Applying student must be a citizen of the U.S.A, a citizen of U.S protectorate, or a permanent resident.

The documents will then be reviewed by a campus representative, who may suggest changes and additions, and help track appropriate references deemed reputable by the foundation. Benefits
The Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence Foundation will award 450 scholarships for the academic year 2021-2022. Recipients of the scholarship will receive a maximum annual amount of $7500. Sophomores receiving this scholarship will receive up to $7500 per year for two years. Junior receivers of the scholarship will receive up to $7500 for one year.
