Wings Over America Scholarship Foundation every year grants around 50 scholarships to advance the postsecondary schooling of Navy wards from the aviation community. Who is Eligible?

The eligibility criteria for the following scholarship is as follows:

Dependent children and spouses of active duty, retired, honorably discharged, or deceased Enlisted or Officer U. S. Navy personnel who serve or have served in U. S. Navy Aviation. 

  1. U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Coast Guard dependents are not eligible to apply.

2. Dependent Children Candidates:
           ~ 
Natural-born, adopted, or stepchildren, unmarried, up to the age of 22 on March 1st of the application year
            ~ Graduate or graduating senior of an accredited high school or home school equivalent
            ~ Current college or trade school student
            ~ Enrolled or plan to be enrolled in an accredited institution as a full-time student taking a minimum of12 credits per semester.     
    3. Dependent Spouse Candidates:
            ~ Enrolled or plan to be enrolled in an accredited institution as a full-time or part-time student taking a minimum of 6 credits per semester. 

Any spouse or child (natural-born, adopted, or stepchild) of a member of the U.S. Navy who died while on active duty serving within a U.S. Navy aviation command may qualify regardless of the length of service of the deceased sponsor.

How to Apply?

All eligible candidates can apply for this scholarship by following the given steps:

Step I: The Pre-Qualification

New applicants MUST complete the pre-qualification portion of the application.

The Pre-Qualification portion determines:

  1. Applicant’s dependent status
  2. Applicant’s sponsor’s time in service within Navy aviation commands

 The pre-qualification process is completed online, and all documentation must be submitted electronically. No paper submissions will be accepted.

Review the following document before beginning the pre-qualification to ensure the correct documents are submitted.

Step II: The Application

Once the pre-qualification is approved, the applicants are provided an applicant ID number allowing them access to the application portion of the scholarship process.

Applicants will be required to:

  1. Complete an Activities-Community Service/Work Experience Form
  2. Write two short essays
  3. Submit official transcripts
  4. Submit recommendations using our online form (two for dependent children; one for dependent spouses)

The application and supporting documents MUST be submitted electronically. 

Benefits

The scholarship foundation will award 50 scholarships to further the post-secondary education of Navy dependents from the aviation community. The scholarship award amounts to $5,000.

Application Deadline

The application deadlines are as follows:

  • The pre-qualification – February 1
  • The application- March 1
