William Louis Poteat Scholarships

Wake Forest University is one of the leading universities of the nation with valuable academic programs and tremendous scholarships. The Wake Forest University is inviting candidates to apply for its William Louis Poteat Scholarships. Entering first-year students who are active members of a North Carolina Baptist church eligible to apply for this program. The award is based upon excellent academic achievement, the promise of leadership, and involvement in one’s church.

This scholarship aims to provide considerable financial support to deserving students. Begun in 1982, the William Louis Poteat Scholarship program honors one of the university’s most prominent historical figures. William Louis Poteat, a devout Baptist, was a professor of biology, president of the college from 1905-1927, and a widely recognized champion of the freedom of inquiry. These scholarships strengthen Wake Forest’s traditional relationship with its Baptist heritage and the state of North Carolina.

Founded in 1834, Wake Forest University is a private university located in Winston-Salem, N.C., with more than 8,000 students. The undergraduate population of more than 5,100 hails from 49 states and more than 50 foreign countries. Their vibrant and diverse academic community in which students pursue learning in one or more of the 45 majors, 60 minors, and additional programs we offer within our six colleges and schools. In September 2018, U.S. News & World Report ranked Wake Forest as one of the top 30 National Universities for the 23rd consecutive year.

Who May Be Eligible?

Check the requirements given below before applying for the program:

  • Entering first-year students who are active members of a North Carolina Baptist church eligible to apply for this program. The award is based upon excellent academic achievement, the promise of leadership, and involvement in one’s church.
  • Recipients must show promise of making a significant contribution to church and society.
  • The applicant should demonstrate financial need.

How to Apply

Candidates who are interested and eligible with the requirements mentioned above should apply for the program by submitting the CSS profile. Applicants’ recommender should download and fill the form with all the required details and materials before the deadline. Any incomplete or late applications will not be entertained. Fully completed materials should be submitted to William Louis Poteat Scholarship Officer, Wake Forest University, PO Box 7309, Winston – Salem, NC 27109 – 7309.

  • Completed applications, FAFSA should be submitted.
  • A church member should submit a letter of recommendation.

Benefits

Twenty students will be selected and awarded this scholarship. This scholarship provides enough funds to pay the educational expenses of the students. The program reduces the financial burden on the students and makes the education easy on them. It encourages the candidates to do better in their careers and maintain satisfactory academic records. The funds received will be utilized to pay the educational expenses of the candidates and free them from the worries of debts.
