Washington Writers’ Publishing House Annual Contest

Washington Writers’ Publishing House is organizing The Jean Feldman Poetry Prize and The Washington Writers’ Publishing House Fiction Prize. All the poets and fiction writers, who are residents of DC, Maryland, and Virginia, are eligible to participate. For applying, submit a manuscript in 50-70 pages or a novel, collection of short stories, with a submission fee of $25. Multiple entries are allowed per person, each with a submission fee. Once submitted, you are not allowed to alter. The contest is open from July 1, 2021, to November 15, 2021.  

This is an amazing opportunity to showcase your talent to the world. The winners in both the categories will be awarded a monetary reward of $1500, 50 copies of the book, and publication launch events at Politics & Prose and the Writers’ Center of Bethesda.  This is an excellent chance to showcase your writing talent to the world. Additionally, the publishing house has a wide reach to the audience that will help your work to circulate and can help you in the future.

 Washington Writers’ Publishing House is a non-profit organization that has published over 50 volumes of poetry since 1975 and, so far, nearly a dozen volumes of fiction. The press at on average sponsors two annual competitions for writers living in the Washington-Baltimore area, and the winners of each category (one each in poetry and fiction) get the chance to work at the set of published works each year.

Who is Eligible?

All the residents of DC, Maryland, and Virginia are invited to participate in the WWPH Annual contests. The contest will be held under two categories:

  1. The Jean Feldman Poetry Prize
  2. WWPH Fiction Prize

How to Apply?

For participating, follow the mentioned steps:

For The Jean Feldman Poetry Prize: Apply here

  1. Submit a manuscript of 50-70 pages in length, single or 1 ½ spaced.
  2. Do not include your name, address or other identifying information on the submitted document.
  3. Include a table of contents and acknowledgements page (including publications in which poems from the manuscript have appeared previously).
  4. Multiple submissions are allowed, each with a submission fee of $25 each.

For WWPH Fiction Prize: Apply here

  1. Submit a novel or a collection of short stories (at least 150 pages and no more than 350 pages, double or 1-1/ 2 spaced).
  2. Do not include your name, address or other identifying information on the submitted document.
  3. Multiple submissions are allowed, each with a submission fee.
  4. Pay an entry fee of dollar $25.

Benefits

Participating in the contest will reward you with the opportunity to work actively in the press. They will also be able to attend at least one in-person press meeting in the D.C. area in 2022. This is a chance to enhance your knowledge in the field and build a career. Attending the meeting with such professionals will help you gain new perspectives and develop your learning. Also, the winners will get a reward of $1500, 50 copies of the book, and publication launch events at Public and Prose and the Writer’s Center of Bethesda.

The contest is open between July 1, 2021, to November 12, 2021. Entries received after the deadline will be invalid.
