Applicants with the following credentials can qualify:
- All new first-year students are eligible for this scholarship;
- Participants can be domestic, international, or undocumented students.
How to Apply
First of all, applicants need to apply for admission in any eligible course at Washington & Lee University. They will have to submit a complete Common Application and W&L Writing Supplement to receive this scholarship. Apart from this, they must provide an official copy of your high school transcript, self-reported or official scores from the SAT or ACT, two teacher recommendations, one guidance counsellor recommendation, and a secondary school form with their application.
All candidates are required to submit the following accompanying documents:
- W&L’s Writing Supplement, including the Johnson Scholarship Application essay;
- An official copy of high school transcript;
- Self-reported or official scores from the SAT or ACT (optional for the Class of 2025);
- Two Teacher recommendations;
- One Guidance Counselor recommendation and secondary school form.
Johnson Scholarship will provide winners with awards in the form of tuition, room, and board. Plus, they will get funding up to $7,000 to support summer experiences during their time at W&L. This additional fund will help them with internships, volunteer experiences, and research projects. Moreover, all other expenses like travel expenses (airfare or mileage costs), meals, and lodging for the duration of the competition will be paid by the university.
