Virginia HBCU Humanities Fellowship

Virginia Humanities is currently offering a New Virginia HBCU Humanities Fellowship Opportunity, which supports deserving students who are willing to indulge in research and gain experience. This opportunity will fund the humanities research of BIPOC scholars affiliated with Virginia’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities. With the help of this fantastic opportunity, you will be a member of Virginia humanities.

This is a non-residential fellowship designed to provide more flexibility and consideration for individuals who cannot travel due to the pandemic or otherwise. This program is for students who want to go ahead in their lives but cannot grow due to a lack of money. However, if applicants demonstrate a need for residency in the application form, options will be considered per-case basis. This scholarship is the best chance to jump-start your research career.

Virginia Humanities Founded in 1974, they are one of fifty-six humanities councils created by Congress with the money and support from the National Endowment for the Humanities to make the humanities available to all Americans. As a non-profit organization, it has been successful thanks to many years of solid bi-partisan commitment to work at federal, state levels and from the NEH itself.

Who is Eligible?

Applicants must be affiliated (current doctoral student, alumni, or faculty) with one of Virginia’s HBCUs to participate in this program. Projects of interest can range across human-centered social sciences, traditional humanities, public, and digital humanities. Preference will be given to research near completion and aligns with Virginia Humanities’ Strategic Vision or topics that explore equity and social disparity issues.

Candidates can submit their application forms and supporting documents online. All supporting documents should be fair or visible.

  • Proof of Virginia HBCU affiliation
  • Project Proposal (details in the application form)
  • Bibliography (not to exceed four pages)
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Letter of your institutional support and release (to be filled out by Academic Advisor, Dean, Department Chair, or another equivalent)
  • Submit the two letters of recommendation (details in the application form)
  • Letter of recomandation.
