Undergraduate Academic-Year East Asia FLAS Fellowships at Stanford University 2019

Stanford University is glad to offer Undergraduate Academic-Year East Asia FLAS Fellowships. This Fellowship is available for freshman, sophomore, Junior, Senior, Co-term.

This Fellowship provides partial funding to encourage students to study important and less commonly taught foreign languages ​​in a combination of field studies, international studies, or international aspects of professional studies.

The purpose of the FLAS program is to promote the training of students who intend to pursue a career in college or university education, government service, or other employment where knowledge of foreign languages ​​and cultures is necessary.

Who May Eligible:

Should be considered for a Stanford FLAS Fellowship, an applicant should:

  • U.S. A permanent resident of the civil or permanent resident or Trust area of ​​the Pacific Islands.
  • Become a registered graduate student in a good position at Stanford during the award period.
  • Be eligible for at least $ 15,000 in financial support set by the Stanford Financial Aid.
  • Filing a financial aid application with the Stanford Financial Assistance Office by April 15 before the awards year.

In East Asian Studies, eligible program languages ​​are Mandarin, Cantonese, Japanese, Korean, Tagalog, Thai, Tibetan, and Vietnamese. Additional languages ​​can be petitioned on a case-by-case basis. The recipient must agree to:

  • During the entire duration of the award, be enrolled in the language and field study course mentioned in your application;
  • Do not accept other employment if it will prolong the period of time within which you expect to receive your degree;
  • Pre and post rewards arranged by the Stanford Language Center; Undergoing language evaluation (more information about these will be available shortly);
  • Submit pre and post-award performance evaluations through the Education Department’s online reporting system.
  • Provide CEAS with a non-Stanford email and agree to complete the FLAS recipient survey every 2 years for 8 years.

Rules

To apply, complete the online application form including:

  • Uploading the details of the purpose. A maximum of 2 pages is in single place, which shows the benefits of language training for your study or future career. Be specific about the courses you plan to enroll during the award period.
  • Upload the current casual copy
  • Request Recommendation Letter Request a letter from your Primary Advisor or another Faculty member with close knowledge of your interests and abilities through the online system.
  • Request a Langauge Trainer Appraisal Complete Section 1 of the CEAS valuation form and provide it to your language trainer to fill and return to CEAS. Language Assessment Forms should be emailed or deleted directly by the CEC by the language trainer.
  • Complete a Stanford CSS profile from the university’s deadline.

Benefits:

The scholarship will provide:

  • FLAS recipients of the graduate academic year will get $ 10,000 in tuition, plus a stipend of $ 5,000.
  • FLAS rewards will compensate you with other funded sources mentioned in your support package; this will not increase your overall support amount.
  • However, it can reduce your debt and/or remove work obligation.
