TOPSS Competition for High School Psychology Students

The American Psychological Association Teachers of Psychology in Secondary Schools has organized a competition for Psychology students studying in High School. The students who are interested in psychology can apply for this competition, and for that, they have to prepare an essay that will describe the societal systemic problems and how it concerns and have impacts on an entire system by listing the problems such as racism, poverty, discrimination, educational disparities, health disparities, or climate change. Students should pick any term from this and state the issues that impact society.

The participants who will participate in this contest and describe the issues in the best way possible will receive some awards. Among all the applications, the three best will be chosen as winners, and each will receive an amount worth $300. The competition will bring awareness among people about the societal issues that seriously leave a significant impact on society, and the participants will be able to be a part of this. Also, with the prizes, they will be motivated and encouraged with their goods.

The APA was founded in 1892 and is the largest scientific and professional organization representing psychology in the United States. Their mission is to advance the creation, communication, and application of psychological knowledge to benefit society improve people’s lives, and advance psychology as a science, as a profession, and as a means of promoting human welfare.

The students who are eligible and interested in this competition should write an essay on a systemic societal problem such as racism, discrimination, poverty, educational disparities, health disparities, or climate change and discuss how the problem impacts a specific group of people and these effects through personal or more examples. And also, describe one way that the study of psychology can help them and others understand an aspect of human behavior related to this systemic problem; students must state, describe, and provide an example relating to at least one specific concept in psychology. Students should also discuss how a concept in psychology can help inform a solution to this systemic problem in 1500 words. With the essay, participants must include in-text citations in APA format and a reference page, a credible information that considers its source and surrounding circumstances, peer-reviewed sources, and with this, they must also include a cover page with theoretical information in about 120-250 words. All participants should read all the information carefully and then apply.

The students participating in this competition will be selected for awards based on their application and essay, which will describe the issues of systemic societal problems and their impacts on our society. Among all the participants, three participants will be selected as winners, and they will receive $300. Also, the top essays will be submitted to Turnitin.com before the awards are decided.

Application Deadline
