Harvard University
Harvard and ROTC share a long relationship. At Harvard, ROTC is an officially recognized student activity and your military service is regarded as a form of public service. The Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps unit at the University of California, Berkeley is one of the six pioneering NROTC units founded throughout the country. Today, the unit has five active-duty personnel, two civilian staff members, and 50-60 midshipmen hailing from Berkeley itself, and its crosstown affiliates: California Maritime Academy, University of California at Davis, and Stanford University. Their program is designed to take 4 years, so they generally do not accept non-scholarship applicants that are not incoming freshmen. The University of Michigan’s Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC) is located in the Chemistry Building on the university’s campus in Ann Arbor, MI. The battalion prepares the both University of Michigan and Eastern Michigan University students for service as officers in both the United States Navy and the United States Marine Corps. The University of Michigan NROTC is only open to students at the University of Michigan and Eastern Michigan University. The financial benefits of the NROTC program: scholarship students receive a full-tuition scholarship as well as a book stipend of $375 at the beginning of each semester. Scholarship students also receive a monthly stipend to help cover living expenses. Freshmen receive $250, sophomores receive $300, juniors receive $350, and seniors receive $400 per month.
