High School of American Studies at Lehman College
The High School of American Studies at Lehman College is a New York City public high school that specializes in social studies, history, and English. The goal of the school is to prepare students for admission to highly competitive colleges and for a wide range of careers in politics, law, journalism, business, science, mathematics, and the arts. As a public school, American Studies has no tuition fee, and only residents of the City of New York are eligible to attend.
Approximately 80-110 applicants are accepted each year. Admission is based solely on a competitive examination, known as the Specialized High Schools Admissions Test (SHSAT), open to all eighth and ninth grade New York City students. All applicants must be New York City residents in order to take the examination.
