School for the Talented and Gifted

Founded in 1982, the School for the Talented and Gifted (TAG) is a college-preparatory magnet high school and it is ranked first in the United States. It enrolls students in grades 9-12. The TAG is well known for its liberal arts, Advanced Placement Program, and intensive education style. It requires the Advanced High School Program as described by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) this program is entitled the Distinguished Achievement Program (DAP), and it is the highest graduation program for Texas. Founded in 1982, the School of Science and Engineering Magnet has responded by creating one of the most comprehensive college preparatory public high schools in the nation. It offers a variety of courses. SEM is a learning community providing students with a rigorous college preparatory academic and technical program. DeBakey High School for Health Professions

Founded in 1972, the Michael E. DeBakey High School for Health Professions (DHSHP) is the High School for Health Professions in the nation opened in Houston with 45 students attending classes at Baylor College of Medicine. It enrolls students in grades 9-12. The school’s first graduating class consisted of 32 students. Since then, it has continued to develop and provide a rigorous and comprehensive pre-college program for students pursuing careers in medicine, healthcare, and/or the sciences. It offers to its student’s experiences in health-care and research facilities with the Texas Medical Center. Typically the University of Houston and Baylor College of Medicine give scholarships covering all tuition expenses to about ten students per class.

Founded in 2007, the Liberal Arts and Science Academy (LASA) is the public magnet high school and it offers specialized electives in all core subjects. It is well known for liberal arts, science, and mathematics in Texas. It has 18 elective science classes, which encompass astronomy, forensic science, and engineering. Electives for humanities include creative writing, women’s literature, amateur radio, and constitutional law. Challenge Early College High School

Founded in 2003, the Challenge Early College High School handles grades nine through thirteen and it is a secondary school in the United States.
