University of California— San Francisco 

Founded in 1864 as Toland Medical College, the school joined the University of California in 1873, and in 1898, moved to its present Parnassus Heights campus. It is the number one medical school in the United States by NIH funding, with over $500 million dollars in funding and 998 NIH grants. In addition to earning a traditional M.D., students can add on a second degree through dual and joint programs.  In the M.D./M.S. program, for example, students combine their medical training with a focus on research in the sciences or humanities while earning a master’s degree in health and medical sciences at the University of California—Berkeley.

Mayo Clinic School of Medicine 

At Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science, trainees learn from consulting physicians at the very top of their fields, in a model based on the principle that the most effective education comes from a combination of scholarship and practice.
