The Tu/Orvis Teen Essay Contest

Writing is incredibly therapeutic, and many individuals are motivated to write to experience the most intense emotions. Writing empowers us to make sense of our feelings, express ourselves in ways we may not be able to do aloud, and be honest with ourselves about how we feel. Writers write for a variety of reasons. Some do it solely because they believe they have a piece of literature inside them that needs to be released, others because they want others to comprehend their experiences, and yet others because they want their writing to inspire others. If you can use your words to inspire others, the Tu/Orvis Teen Essay Contest is likely to be the ideal opportunity for you.

Trout Unlimited (TU) runs an essay writing contest every year; this year, TU has partnered with Orvis to host this contest. Orvis is a family-owned American retail and mail-orders company that specializes in fly fishing, hunting, and sporting products. This year’s contestants must write an essay on the following prompt: Public lands and green spaces are those places where we can go to walk a greenway and listen to the birds, sit in the shade of a tree to escape the summer heat, camp, fish, hike, and explore. Why are these places an important part of your life? There are certain general guidelines. All content must be original, and essays should be between 600 and 800 words in length. All authors agree to authorize Trout Unlimited and Orvis to re-post their work on their websites, TROUT magazine, and promote it through suitable TU and Orvis social media platforms. The grand prize for this year will be Orvis Helios 3 outfit, and runners-ups will also receive prizes.
