The Rookies International Awards

The Rookies is an International Awards sponsored by Autodesk for students and recent alumni who are at least 18 years or older. The student competition is available for young designers, creators, innovators, and artists in film, animation, games, virtual reality, motion graphics, and 3d visualization.

For students, The Rookies offers them a “stamp of approval” as they transition from school to production, enabling them to have their work seen, graded and commented on by industry heavyweights. As well as find out where they stack up against their peers.

Who May Eligible:

To enter The Rookies (ROOKIES) you (the Artist) must:

  • Be 18 years or older.
  • Be able to show proof that you have studied, or are currently studying at a certified university, school, or online training facility between January 2017 and May 2018.
  • create an entry page and upload examples of your work to
  • You (the Artist) are not allowed to enter The Rookies if: they feel you have too much professional experience and training in any creative field that puts you at a distinct advantage over first-time graduates and students.

To apply for a Studio Internship or School Scholarship you (the Artist):

  • Must be a local national eligible to work in the location you select.
  • Must not require any immigration VISA’s to legally work in the country you select.
  • Must not require sponsorship from a Studio to legally work in the country you select.
  • Must be able to attend a Studio Internship in the second half of 2018, or otherwise determined by the Studio.

How to Apply & Competitions Rules:

To apply, the applicant must need to register or log-in through the link.


  • The Artist retains ownership of all ideas and materials/images upload to the website.
  • There are a large number of entry categories for students to upload their work this year.
  • The Artist can only enter work that has been created by The Artist and that you have the right or authority to enter and publish.
  • Fan Art is allowed. The Artist can enter work inspired by concept artists, but The Artist must credit any other artist’s work.
  • Absolutely no “Professional” work can be submitted that was completed at a studio or as part of freelance paid work. Only student work will be accepted.
  • Videos must be viewable to the general public and not require a password to access.
  • All entries must be in English.


  • Entrants can win weekly prizes, jobs, educational scholarships and even studio internships.
  • Entrants also receive an official industry ranking, become confident in presenting their work and can see how their skills compare with other students.

Application Deadline:

The Rookies is an annual award with a peak period of activity between March and July each year. The deadlines vary for each contest.
