American Meteorological Society is celebrating the 100th Anniversary program of The Father James B. Macelwane Annual Award in Meteorology. The purpose is to stimulate interest in meteorology among college students through the submission of an original student paper concerned with some phases of atmospheric sciences. All undergraduate students are eligible for the award. The US citizens or the legal residents of the US can submit their original paper ensuring that it was written during the time of under graduation. The students need to submit a few documents such as an abstract in 250 words, a letter of application from the author, a letter from the department head or a faculty from the department, and a student assessment form. Applications from women, minorities and disabled students are encouraged. The last date to submit your application is June 4, 2021.
The winning recipient will be awarded a monetary stipend of $1000 and will get partial travel support to attend the AMS annual meeting. The American Meteorological Society aims to advance the atmospheric and related sciences, technologies, applications, and services for the benefit of society. Founded in 1919, its initial membership came from the US Signal Corps and US Weather Bureau and numbered less than 600. Its initial publication, the Bulletin of American Meteorological Society, was meant to serve as a supplement to the Monthly Weather Review, which at the time, was published by US Weather Bureau.

Who May Be Eligible?
To be eligible for The Father James B. Macelwane Annual Award, the candidate must satisfy the following conditions;
- The student must be enrolled as an undergraduate at the time the paper is written.
- The applicant must be a US citizen or hold permanent resident status.
- No age restrictions to apply.
Note: Applications from women, minorities, and disabled students, traditionally underrepresented in the atmospheric and related oceanic and hydrologic science are encouraged.
How to Apply?
For applying, the applicants are required to submit the following documents:
- A pdf copy of the original paper.
- An abstract in and around 250 words.
- A letter of application from the author, including mailing address and email, stating the title of the paper and the name of the university at which the paper was written.
- A letter from the department head or other faculty member of the department, confirming that the author was an undergraduate student at the time when the paper was written.
- The student assessment form completed by the department head or the faculty of the department.
Note: Only two papers are allowed to be submitted from a university.
