The Cities for Our Future Challenge for Global Students and Young People

Are you an imaginative, problem solving young professional, start-up or student involved in surveying, urban design, architecture, or engineering? Take part in the Cities for our Future Challenge, is a global competition run by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) in partnership with UNESCO UKNC and the ACU.

The competition is encouraging students and young people to find solutions to the issues facing the world’s rapidly expanding cities. If you win, there’s a £50,000 prize up for grabs and the chance to work with experts and mentors from within the surveying industry.

Who May Eligible:

You are eligible to enter if you meet the following criteria at the time of entry:

  • Anyone, apart from employees of the RICS.
  • They’re particularly interested in hearing from young professionals, students or startups in the field of surveying, urban design and engineering, and green technologies.
  • There is no minimum or a maximum number of members each team can have.

How to Apply & Competitions Rules:

To apply, the applicant must need to submit an online entry form through the given link: https://www.citiesforourfuture.com/entry

Rules:

  • First, choose the topic you want to tackle: Rapid Urbanisation, Resource Scarcity or Climate Change, then select the city you’d most like to create a solution for.
  • All entries must be in English.
  • Upload your entry document: This should be the original entry document you downloaded, completed with your response.
  • Upload any additional Assets/Images: They can only accept files in JPG, PNG or GIF format. You can upload up to 5 assets/images. The maximum file size of 5MB.
  • When you upload your entry, you will receive a confirmation within the website – if you’re worried that your entry may have failed to upload, contact 150@rics.org including the subject line ‘Cities for our Future’.

Benefits:

  • The winner will receive a £50,000 prize and mentorship with industry experts to potentially make their concept a reality.
  • You will also get the chance to build your professional profile at an international level, potentially kick-start a rewarding and varied career, and work with experts within the surveying industry.
  • The prize will be distributed by bank transfer within 28 days of the winner accepting the prize.

The deadline for the Cities for our Future Challenge is 31 May 2018, at 23.59 GMT.
