In-car accidents, young drivers are disproportionately killed. Automobile accidents are the leading cause of death among teens and young adults, especially those aged 15 to 24. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, distracted driving killed 2,841 people in 2018, with 400,000 people injured in distracted driving accidents. Distracted driving is without a doubt a public safety problem. The issue is especially prevalent among young drivers. Though young drivers are not the only ones to blame, they pose a danger if they drive while distracted. We need to figure out how to put an end to distracted driving. Admitting that a concern occurs is the first step in modifying any action. Many of us are quick to judge others for their distracted driving behaviours, but how many of us are able to investigate our driving habits? Distraction-Free Driving Scholarship: The “First Step” is an initiative to aid this cause.
