Sussman-Miller Educational Assistance Award Program

Albuquerque Community Foundation is pleased to announce Sussman-Miller Educational Assistance Award Program for New Mexico residents. The Award is available for graduating high school seniors who will attend a New Mexico public collegeuniversity and any student who is already attending college in or out of the state.

This program provides financial assistance to address the ‘gap’ in student financial aid packages for both students graduating from high school and those continuing their education.

Who May Eligible:

To eligible, the candidates must be following all the eligibility criteria:

  • Be a high school graduate planning to attend a New Mexico public college/university
  • The current undergraduate student who is still a permanent resident of New Mexico
  • Attend a public or nonprofit college or university full-time
  • Available statewide
  • Must be a federal financial aid recipient
  • Be a U.S. citizen or permanent U.S. resident with a green card and be a legal New Mexico resident for a minimum of one year
  • Be awarded a financial aid package that does not meet demonstrated need
  • Be accepted by and have chosen to attend a U.S. post-secondary, accredited, non-profit or public
    the educational institution as a full-time student taking a minimum of 12 credit hours of grade-bearing
    courses per semester
  • Beginning fall 2014, the Legislative Lottery Scholarship requirement includes the new minimum for the number of credit hours – 15 NEW credit hours and repeating classes do not count.
  • Be graduating from an accredited public or private high school and must have a cumulative 3.0 GPA in high school academic grade-bearing subjects (For graduating high school seniors)
  • Have completed a minimum of one (1) semester of undergraduate work and must have a cumulative 2.5 GPA in college academic grade-bearing subjects (For Undergraduate students)
  • Not be applying for residency in another state (For Undergraduate students)

How to Apply & Competitions Rules:

To participate, the applicants must submit an application online form through the given link:

Rules:

  • Financial aid award letter or announcement from college/university for the 2018-19 academic year
  • Copy of your complete Federal Student Aid Report (all pages) for the 2018-19 academic year
  • Résumé: Include school activities, awards, honours, community service, employment, and internships.
    Note number of years of participation and any office or position held for each activity
  • Statement of personal goals and unusual circumstances to be considered:
    • Essay or business letter format – grammar, spelling, and punctuation do count.
    • Include educational and career goals – be as specific as possible.
    • Describe any special circumstance that makes it more difficult for you to attain your
    education.
    • Applicants with dependent children should include an explanation of their financial
    responsibilities and tax consequences.
  • Official transcript
  • One reference from a current academic teacher or counsellor:
    • Sent by teacher or school separately or in a sealed envelope and included with your
    application form.
    • Reference should write a letter or use the Personal Rating Form.
  • Statement of college/university budget (costs) on which aid is based, for the 2018-19 academic
    year:
    • Costs may be included in your award letter, on a separate sheet with school letterhead or
    taken from the catalogue.
    • Should include: tuition, fees, room and board, books, personal expenses, travel, and loan
    fees (you may include a short description of any unusual expenses such as childcare or
    medical that are not included in the school’s information).
    • Completed Budget Form of Required Information.
  • Your name should be on every page of every attachment!
    • All signatures on the application must be completed.
    • Submit all required documents to our office before the deadline.

Awards vary between $500 and $2,000.
