Student Paper and Video Competition: “Standards in a Changing World”

The American National Standards Institute (ANSI), in conjunction with its Committee on Education (CoE), is pleased to announce its 7th annual student competition. The 2018 Student Paper and Video Competition: “Standards in a Changing World” is open as part of ANSI’s ongoing efforts to spread awareness among postsecondary students of the strategic significance of standards and conformance.

The “Student Paper and Video Competition” is available to both full- and part-time college or university students at the associate, undergraduate, or graduate level of all disciplines. Total $4,000 award will be awarded in both video and paper categories.

Who May Eligible:

To eligible, the candidates must meet all the following eligibility criteria:

  • All college or university student(s) at the associate, undergraduate, or graduate level enrolled in a U.S. academic institute of higher learning.
  • Both full- and part-time students of all disciplines are eligible to apply.

How to Apply & Competitions Rules:

To participate, the challenge requires applicants to submit “Video or Paper submission” that reflect the 2018 theme: “Standards in a Changing World.”

Rules:

  • For full submission criteria, view the ANSI 2018 Student Paper Competition flyer.
  • Contest submissions can take one of two forms: a paper (maximum 2,000 words) or a video (maximum 2 minutes).
  • Participants may enter both categories, but an individual can only win one category.
  • Entrants are asked to consider: How have standards made 21st-century communications possible, and how can standards themselves – which can be very text heavy, technical, and dense – change to reflect the visual nature of global communications today?
  • Email entries (for videos, provide unlisted YouTube link only) to lrajchel@ansi.org.

Benefits:

  • A cash prize of $2,000 will be awarded to the 1st place winner in each category.
  • All entries will be reviewed by top-level industry experts, and winning papers will be published on org, StandardsBoostBusiness.org, StandardsLearn.org, and potentially in other media outlets.
  • Winning submissions will be read by a large number of members of the standards community, including experts in government, industry, professional societies, and academic institutions.

Application Deadline:

The application deadline is April 27, 2018. Winning papers will be announced in June 2018.
