Ruth Clark Furniture Design $4000 Scholarship

Ruth Clark Furniture Design Scholarship was set up by the Carolinas Chapter to give respect and remember Ruth Clark, one of the chapter’s established members. Ruth Clark, an IFDA Fellow, completed his graduation from the Rhode Island School of Design. During her profession, she designed a lot of upholstered furniture for a very long time, and a considerable lot of her designs have become works of art in the industry today. She guided design understudies and youthful experts in the field, filled in as Carolinas Chapter President, and got the renowned IFDA National Honorary Recognition Award in 1994. Presently she is a designing expert and furniture designer for The Clark Connection. This grant is in her honor and to remember her legacy of designing.

The grant is available to, as of now, enlisted post-secondary understudies whose accentuation is on a residential furniture design. All candidates applying for this grant should have finished four plan courses in post-secondary instruction at the hour of application and study Interior Design or any relevant field. The grant is available to enroll undergraduate presently and graduate post-secondary understudies studying design with attention on residential upholstered and additionally wood furniture design. The beneficiary of this grant should be selected for the fall semester following the March 31st application cutoff time to get this grant. Applications will be acknowledged every year between March 1 and no later than March 31.

Who is Eligible?

The eligibility criteria for the following scholarship is as follows:

  • All applicants must have completed four design courses in post-secondary education at the time of application and be majoring in Interior Design or a related field.
  • The scholarship is open to currently enrolled undergraduate and graduate post-secondary students majoring in DESIGN with a focus on residential upholstered and/or wood furniture design.
  • The recipient of this scholarship must be enrolled for the fall semester following the March 31st application deadline to receive this scholarship.

How to Apply?

The qualified candidates will have to present a 200-400 word essay explaining their long- and short-term goals, special interests, volunteer/community service, and what inspired them to pursue a professional career in this field. The scholarship application form must also be completed by the candidates attached with all the below-mentioned documents.

Supporting Documents

Following are the documents that need to be attached with your application form:

  • An unofficial transcript from your college Registrar. 
  • One Design Project Example, to include process details, descriptions, and both in-process and final drawings (to include plan, elevation, and/or 3-D drawings and renderings). Computer-generated and/or handwork may be included. (group projects will not be accepted)
  • Four additional individual images, with descriptions, detailed computer-generated final design images, and/or final design hand drawings and/or final design renderings and/or final built examples.
  • Final built furniture images are encouraged for all examples, and you must provide color images.
  • Letter of Recommendation from an instructor/professor on official school stationery.


The IFDA Educational Foundation will be awarding one splendid candidate chosen out of all the eligible entries and applications received a scholarship prize worth $4,00 which further can be applied towards your tuition costs or other education-related expenses such as transportation, books, accommodation, etc.

Application Deadline

All the applications concerning this grant are accepted only between March 1 to March 31st of every year, and non-submission of applications between the said period will lead to disqualification from the program. So sit tight and wait for the opportunity to grab.
