XTO Energy Inc. Scholarship

The George R. Brown School of Engineering at Rice University offers the XTO Energy Inc. Scholarship for professional masters in engineering students. Applicants are enrolled as a Rice engineering undergraduate, progressing with good standing toward completion of the Bachelor’s degree. The student recipient will be awarded a half-tuition scholarship per semester for up to two semesters during which she or he is enrolled in an engineering professional master’s program.

Fulbright-Hays Fellowship at Rice University

At Rice University, the Fulbright-Hays Program provides grants to colleges and universities to fund individual doctoral students to conduct research in other countries in modern foreign languages and area studies for periods of six to twelve months. This program holds an annual competition. Applicants must be a citizen or a non-citizen national of the United States or have been lawfully admitted for permanent residence. Applicants also must be candidates for the Ph.D. degree and have identified a dissertation research project and sponsor(s).

Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship Program at Rice University

The fundamental objective of MMUFP is to increase the number of minority students, and others with a demonstrated commitment to eradicating racial disparities, and who will pursue PhDs in core fields in the arts and sciences. Rice students interested in the Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellows Program should submit an application to the Office of Diversity and Inclusion. Each year, fellows receive a stipend of $3,600.

Marilyn Marrs Gillet International Travel Fellowship

The Humanities Research Center awards one to two competitive travel awards of $2500 to $5,000 to graduate students in the School of Humanities who need to conduct research abroad over the summer. Graduate Students in the School of Humanities who will be enrolled as full-time students in fall 2018 are eligible to apply. Awarded funds may be used for, but not limited to, travel to present papers at scholarly conferences, consult distant archives, interview scholars, and authors, take courses, and/or participate in workshops.

Rice Seminar | Graduate Fellowships

The Rice Seminars are designed to promote humanistic research, broadly understood. Two graduate students will be appointed for the Seminar. Applications are welcome from Rice doctoral students from any discipline. Each fellow will receive a $5,000 stipend distributed over the course of the year.

Andrew W. Mellon Graduate Research Seminar | Graduate Fellowships

Applications are welcome from Rice doctoral students in any humanistic discipline. Preference will be given to students who will be in their 3rd or 4th year of study, though others are welcome to apply. In consultation with the HRC, the seminar leader will select five doctoral students, preferably in their third or fourth year, to enroll in the seminar and receive a $6900 stipend supplement. One of the graduate students will receive an additional $1000 per semester to create a record of the seminar including a summary of meetings for the HRC.

Research Travel Funding

The Houston Centered Policy Challenge (HCP) Challenge

The HCP Challenge is a Harvey-related public policy competition for Rice students that bring the design process to local Houston policy. The winning student proposal will be eligible for $15,000 in seed money that will be used to initiate the project in the target Houston city office, department, or organization. There are also financial prizes for the members of the first, second, and third-placed teams.

Merit Scholarships at Rice University

All admitted freshman applicants are automatically considered for merit-based scholarships so that no separate application forms or interviews are necessary. The Office of Admission notifies scholarship winners at the time of admission to the university. At the Rice University, the Rice/Baylor Medical Scholars Program (MSP) promotes the education of students who are scientifically competent, compassionate and socially conscious. Rice and Baylor College of Medicine select up to 6 incoming freshmen each year to pursue a four-year bachelor’s degree at Rice, followed by guaranteed admission to Baylor College of Medicine. MSP students are encouraged to explore the entire range of Rice undergraduate programs to expose themselves to a broad-based education.

Wagoner Foreign Study Scholarship Program

At Rice University, the Wagoner Foreign Study Scholarship provides students and alumni the opportunity to conduct research abroad for a minimum of eight weeks to one year. All Rice graduate students and graduate alumni participating in research are encouraged to apply. Awardees must be in good standing with the University as well as their department.  Funding is available up to $15,000 per award (students receiving multiple Wagoner awards may not exceed $15,000 in awards while a graduate student at Rice).
